  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2023 - It’s been 15 years since Hollywood was in this much turmoil with the advent of the WGA strike and it’s dire effects are already reverberating throughout the entertainment industry. After all, without writers there are no auditions, and without auditions many budding actors are finding themselves questioning their careers all together. However, amidst the chaos and the fallout of the strike, actor, writer, and producer Ian Verdun is creating new paths and empowering fellow thespians to take control of their own destiny.

Best known for his breakout role as Xander McClure on Freeform’s “Siren”, Verdun knows what it takes to stay relevant in the ever changing and unpredictable entertainment industry. He can next be seen in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming sci-fi release, “The Creator”. The buzzy film stars John David Washington and Allison Janney and is Director Gareth Edwards’ latest project since 2016’s genre redefining epic, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.

In the meantime, Verdun is laying the foundation for Actors in Control, his new company which aims to provide guidance, coaching, and resources to help fellow thespians utilize uncertain moments like the writer’s strike to follow his lead and take control of their own paths.

Verdun says, “Being a creative person in the entertainment industry takes a lot of bravery. Battling all the uncertainty while creating a viable career as an actor or writer can be incredibly daunting. The writer’s strike forces all of us to re-evaluate our commitments to our dreams and to find new directions to continually pursue our passions.”

He further states, “The best thing that we can do is define the terms of our own success. It’s important to support writers, after all their fight is our fight. But it’s also important not to feel helpless in the face of it all. We must use the moment to learn, create and plan. The path forward may be uncertain, but that doesn’t mean your steps have to be.”

Verdun’s not just giving out advice, he’s actively following it as he’s currently in development on a passion project he’s had since childhood; a Comic Book Series, titled, “The Burden”. “The Burden” is a dark comic inspired by his love for mythology and urban fantasy and births a new IP that can find life beyond the printed page on the small and big screen.

“This is the time to take matters into our own hands and define for ourselves what is possible for us as artists and professionals. Go out and take that class, write that script, make that short film, and indeed, develop that comic book. Sooner or later the dust will settle, and you can choose whether or not you make progress while the storm rages.”

Verdun is leading the way for other actors to use their talents and gifts to define the parameters and scope for their own success, and he and Actors in Control are there to help them do it.
