  • (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - Project Type: The project involves reforestation of 282 hectares of degraded lands in Chhattisgarh state of India.

    The project site has been acquired from Individual farmers and natural conditions did not allow encroachment and establishment of forest. The lands under consideration are locally known as bhata lands with poor water holding capacity, no vegetation cover and are heavily prone to erosion. Now, a total of 155,074 trees of Gmelina arborea whereas a total of 55,159 trees of Albizzia lebbeck have been planted at the site.

    Availability & Delivery: Project is due for validation completion under VCS AFOLU 2008 standard by end of February 2011. Verification of the project is going on simultaneously and issuance is expected by April 2011.

    Volume: 60,000 t CO2e till 2010

    Sustainability: Promotes community participation in plantation. Economic activity in the area prior to the project activity used to be either scattered agriculture (rainfed, mainly paddy) or masonry and excavation of shell sheets.

    • The project activity has benefited the lives of native rural by providing regular round the year employment (around 250 people) at the doorstep and free of cost fuel wood & fodder.

    • Continual training on farm machines & farming techniques, for their self-employment are in progress.

    • Farmers are now exposed to the pioneering agro - forestry techniques along with better watershed management, land use planning and soil - moisture conservation

    • Additional employment in the region that has resulted in lowered emigration. Free of cost distribution of fodder and fuel wood to the local people has been undertaken by PIL.
