The Christian and community-based "Thrive Girls Camp," being held in collaboration with Global Ethos and the Limuru Ministry of Education, will bring together 100 girls at the Kinyogori Primary School from April 17-20 to share Gospel-centered Bible studies and teach life skills lessons, character/self-esteem building, and healthy living education. World Overcomers Christian Church will also work to create a school library during the mission trip.

Each day, the WOCC missions team will mentor the girls, coordinate arts and crafts activities and prepare meals for participants. WOCC and Global Ethos, a Cary, N.C.-based organization dedicated to mobilizing Americans for global missions in support of social justice are partnering for all activities during the camp, including stocking the library with books. Through the trip, The First Lady and her team seek to place the needs of individual girls at the heart of their efforts, as well as help them achieve life in Christ in all its fullness.

"This is one of the most ambitious efforts our church has sponsored, and we are placing the needs of these girls at the heart of our mission," said Pastor Thompson. "At World Overcomers Christian Church, we aim to provide for both the physical and spiritual needs of God's children, and this is what we want to do on our mission trip to Kenya. We appreciate the continued prayers from around the Triangle community."

"We want these sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who live in the Kinyogori Village in East Africa to be empowered and transformed in spirit, mind and body through our ministry," said First Lady LaShawn Thompson. "In addition, we want to equip these girls to inspire and empower others. I and the rest of my pastoral team are eager to meet with the students, look at the world from their perspective and share the message of the Gospel with them."
