  • (1888PressRelease) December 23, 2010 - It was a bewitching evening, the like of which would certainly not have been seen by Navi Mumbaikars for quite a long time, as Wockhardt Foundation rolled out the first of its chain of clubs to serve the socio-cultural cum healthcare needs of the senior citizenry in grand style. Wockhardt Foundation is already well known for its service to the poor and needy on multiple fronts, including Mobile Health Reach, Right To Vision, Deworm India, Khel Khel Mein, 7 Human Values and so on.

The welcome address by Ms Nafisa Khorakiwala, Chairperson of Wockhardt Foundation, was marked by quiet dignity and serenity, as she recapitulated the milestones that the Foundation had crossed over the years. She also gave her vision of an expanding canvas for the Foundation in the years ahead, including the newly launched Sunset Joy Recreation Club chain.

Fr Johnson of the Sacred Heart Church who was the event partner for the evening highlighted the importance of such community activities and services in today's scenario as more and more persons are joining the ranks of senior citizens all over the country.

Mr Agnello Pereira, project in-charge, Sunset Joy Recreation Clubs, was in his elements as he enthralled the audience with his wit and repartee, which had to be heard, to be believed. Here is a thoroughbred event manager who demands your attention and holds it. Most if not all problems of senior citizens relate to lifestyle issues, both within the family and outside. To tackle this delicate and indispensable dimension of wellness in this age group, Dr S Srinivasan, lifestyle coach associated with Wockhardt Foundation, facilitated a lively multi-lingual interaction with the participants in English, Hindi and Marathi. With his informal and friendly demeanor he could make the gathering appreciate the importance of little things in life such as establishing eye contact with the spouse, gentle touch, caring gestures and so on. Lifestyle coaching is going to be a vital component of Wockhardt Foundation service to the Golden Age Group in times to come.

Nafisa Khorakiwala, Chairperson, Wockhardt Foundation said on the occasion, "Our Recreation Sunset Joy Club aims at providing socio-cultural & emotional support to senior citizens in the urban areas. The club also provides a platform for senior citizens to meet periodically, showcase their talents and share each other's joys & sorrows, enriching their lives, making them live with dignity, love, joy, respect & brotherhood. Healthcare facilities will be provided to the extent possible with the help of the local medical community".

Then came the time for celebrations, as there were prizes and surprises galore. A golden young lady got a thunderous applause as she celebrated her birthday on the occasion. Then there were awards for all kinds of persons and couples, e.g. the longest married, those who carried photos of family members in their wallet, the youngest senior citizen, what have you. Nobody could realize how time flew, till the clock struck 6 and reminded everyone it was time to go back home.
