  • (1888PressRelease) January 03, 2013 - While some people can't get enough of the winter season, others can't wait to escape its cold grip and would rather be sitting on a warm beach somewhere. But, regardless of how you feel about the cold, the snow and the ice, if you're a photographer, you can't help but to be awestruck by winter's majesty. There's something quite magical about this special season and if you're good with a camera, there are boundless photo opportunities.

In light of winter's photo potential, FreePhotoCourse.com, a leader in online photography lessons, tips and tutorials, is welcoming 2013 with a new photo contest called "Winter Magic 2013". This online contest is free to enter, and will be featuring pictures that depict and celebrate the serenity, beauty, majesty, magic, playfulness, purity or stillness of the winter season.

Acceptable genres include Landscape, Still Life, Abstract, Nature, Environmental, Wildlife, Cityscape, Street/Urban, Macro or Night photography. Color or Monochrome will be accepted. The portrait genre will not apply to this contest. Any submission must be family-friendly.

The contest is open to photographers at any level (you don't have to be a pro) who are eighteen years or older at the time of submission and who legally reside in Canada (excluding Quebec) or the continental US. Each participant is limited to one photo submission, so choose your best winter shot!

Prizes include a sling camera bag that's suitable for a DSLR camera and lenses, and an ultra high-speed SD card. FreePhotoCourse.com will also promote the prize winners and featured photographers on their website, which will provide an enhanced international web presence. First and second place prize winners may also get a link to their photo website if applicable.

So, what kind of pictures are considered to be winter photography? Well, when most people think of winter photography, they imagine pictures of snow-covered fields, snow-topped mountains and hillsides, or mounds of the white stuff sticking to leafless tree branches. And, although these idyllic images just might prove to be award-winning material for this photo contest, there are so many other options and scenes that can also captivate the eye and embody the season. Participants in this contest might consider looking in different places to see how winter has put its special mark on both familiar and unfamiliar scenes, objects and places. Pictures of snow and icicles can be beautiful, but winter can reveal itself in different ways as well!

The deadline for this contest is February 28, 2013.
