  • (1888PressRelease) March 26, 2011 - Scott Wimmer returns to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA on Saturday, March 26th for the Auto Club 400 driving for Key Motorsports in the # Chevrolet Impala in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. He is coming off a strong run last week at Bristol in the Scotts EZ Seed 300 where he showed flashes of what can be accomplished this season by running in the Top-15 on multiple occasions.

"I am glad to be returning back to Fontana" said Scott Wimmer. "We would like to pick up where we left off at Bristol. I have said all season we can be a consistent Top-15 team, and we've been knocking on the door a lot this season. I really want to make sure we put together a strong push for the long remaining portion of this season, Fontana would be a great place to start."

Wimmers goal going into this season was to finish in the Top-10 in the driver Points Championship, and is currently sitting in 20th position after picking up three spots this past weekend at Bristol. With the Sprint Cup regulars not receiving points this season, it is really giving a shot in the arm to the teams and drivers that run full time in the Nationwide Series, and has them all ready to take aim on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship that has been dominated by the Sprint Cup regulars the past several seasons.

Key Motorsports capped off a very consistent 2010 season by adding 20 Top-20 finishes, almost half of those Top-15's and multiple Top-10's to their credit. The team finished 21st in points the past two seasons and is determined to get over that hump into the Top-20 in Owners Points, currently sitting in 29th Owners Points position.

Scott Wimmer originally hails from Wausau, Wisconsin. He carved his mark on the short tracks in the Midwest throughout the 1990's and became recognized as the dominant force in racing throughout the Midwest. Wimmer captured the eye of top NASCAR owners after he entered the American Speed Association (ASA) and claimed victories in the first two races he competed in. Wimmer tallied two Top-5 and eight Top-10 finishes in his rookie year of the Busch Series that put him 11th in the championship standings. In the 2007 season, Wimmer (along with teammate Jeff Burton) won the NASCAR Busch Series season owner points championship for Richard Childress Racing. The duo finished 3rd in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings in 2008, while Wimmer posted his 6th career NASCAR win. In 2009, Wimmer ran 29 races for Curtis Key Sr. and Key Motorsports with a season best finish of 7th at Memphis. He resides in North Carolina with his wife, Jody and son, Hayden.
