  • (1888PressRelease) April 26, 2011 - After early season retirements with engine failures, Scott Wimmer and his #40 Key Motorsports Chevy Impala team are starting to find their stride. Back-to-back races without engine failures and consistent driving by Wimmer has equaled in both driver and team owner getting important rise in their respective points championships to focus on getting even stronger in the season standings.

Wimmer, just two races ago was 23rd in the Drivers Points Championship, and after two strong races, the latest a 21st place finish at Nashville Superspeedway for the eighth round of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, is now in 17th and just 22 points out of the Top-15. Wimmer is getting set to embark on another circuit where he has very strong results in Richmond International Raceway for the Bubba Burger 250. In 14 races at Richmond, Wimmer has amassed an impressive nine Top-10 finishes with two of those in the Top-5, with a combined 47 laps led.

"We're still getting our engine program up to speed, so until we're fully there are just running a conservative strategy for the most part, and it's worked well for the team." Wimmer continues; "The guys at Key Motorsports are some of the hardest working in the paddock, and have set me up with cars that are very comfortable to drive in traffic. Although we don't have the outright speed yet, having a good car under me allows me to do what I need to right now, which is to build up points for the stretch run when we know we will be able to drive to the front."

For Curtis Key, the Team Owner also has enjoyed the boost in points the past two races. Just two races ago he was 32nd in the Team Owner Points Championship and currently sits in 24th place. The Top-30 teams are automatically in for the next round, as opposed to having to qualify in on time. The team set a goal prior to the season of being in the Top-20 by seasons end, and now just 36 points out, have their goals well within site.

The Bubba Burger 250 will take place on Friday evening at 7:30pm EST on SPEED.
