Ross has previously served as the musical director for Streisand's two previous tours. Ross received a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction for the documentary Streisand: Live in Concert. Ross has described Streisand as "Gracious, though definitely a perfectionist. She will work until she gets what she wants." Their fruitful collaboration continues with this world-spanning tour. A prolific composer, William Ross recently scored this year's Lifetime highest-rated movie, Steel Magnolias, a contemporary version of the stage play and 1989 film. The film was produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Virtually simultaneously, Ross collaborated with the producing duo as the musical director of this year's Academy Awards which was produced by Meron and Zadan.
