  • (1888PressRelease) May 24, 2011 - Simply Flowers of Devon and Fleurtations of Cornwall will be going head to head to prove the Westcountry has what it takes at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show this Year.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is held each year on five consecutive days in May in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, London. It is the most famous horticultural show in the United Kingdom, and perhaps even the world.

They are competing for Florist of the Year Award and entry involves creating a modern take on the traditional Jockey Silk. Each Jockey Silk design will be created using between 300-400 flower heads and require great skill, creativity and contemporary technique.

Simply Flowers is managed by Kate Bainbridge who has been in Floristry for over 10 years. Previously a lecturer in Floristry Kate launched Simply Flowers 5 Years ago and now specialises in Wedding and Sympathy Flowers.

Kate Bainbridge, Managing Director of Simply Flowers commented: "The Chelsea Flower Show really does place us on a National and International standing. It will be an excellent vehicle in which we can showcase and promote the skills we have here in Devon. Fingers crossed we bring home the Gold!"

Caroline Crabb, the Managing Director of Fleurtations, has been in the industry for over 12 years. Having enjoyed it since she started Caroline has continued to train throughout her career.

Caroline, commented: "The design brief for this years award is tough and a testament to the level of competition there will be. The Westcountry is well represented this year. Of the 16 entrants into the Category, 4 businesses are from the Westcountry so this is an excellent opportunity for the Westcountry to place itself on the horticultural map!"

The Chelsea judges are looking for craftsmanship, design and technique. They will be marking the Florists design pieces during the show week and winners will be announced on 28th May.
