Voxxit Announces MyHurricane, a Free Advanced Storm Tracking Tool for the Web and iPad

- (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2010 - MIAMI, FL - Today, Voxxit, LLC has announced the release of its free hurricane tracking tool for the web - MyHurricane. Built and designed for the Apple iPad, MyHurricane allows users to directly interact with the user interface, powered by Google Maps.
On the iPad, MyHurricane is a full-page web-based application -- the key difference being that it allows for instant application updates for the user -- without having to update anything. Over the last three weeks, MyHurricane has been upgraded to include many new features for beta testers.

* Street-level forecast wind fields - see when the storm is forecast to be in your location, and at what strength.

* Shareable - Send your friends and family the latest storm information easily with Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites.
* Embeddable widget - Web developers, website owners and bloggers can easily add the MyHurricane widget to their sites with a simple copy & paste of two lines of code.

Instant Twitter & Email Alerts
Users can instantly sign up for alerts for their location using their address, city or zip code. When they are located within the official forecast cone, they will instantly receive an alert via Twitter direct message or email of the impending storm. "This allows people who wouldn't normally keep their eyes peeled to a TV or website stay updated on a storm's path," says Josh Delsman, creator of MyHurricane, and owner of Voxxit, LLC.
Alerts are only sent once per storm, and can be modified or removed at any time at the MyHurricane web site.
Forecast Wind Fields
"People commonly get confused when they focus on the small dots associated with the forecast tracks of storms," states Delsman. MyHurricane allows users to see tropical storm and hurricane wind fields at multiple points along the forecast path, so they can make an informed decision on their preparations before a storm. "In fact, you can zoom straight down to your address to see how strong the winds are forecast to be."
Current and Historical Forecast Model Plotting
"Based on popular demand, we've added a feature to allow users to view forecast models, verify which ones are performing the best, and form their own predictions as to the path of storms," says Delsman.
While the official forecast should always be used to make preparations and decisions when evacuating, MyHurricane offers both current forecast model plots, as well as historical plots, for all storms in the current season. Over 85 forecast models are available, and updated at MyHurricane immediately after every run for all users.
Share with Family and Friends
Both the web and iPad versions of MyHurricane allow users to instantly share the currently-viewed storm with their friends, family and anyone else who may be interested or impacted by said storm. Twitter, Facebook and a number of other social media sites are included in the list of available sites to choose from.
Embeddable On Websites
MyHurricane has also launched with a free, easy-to-install, and customizable widget which allows website owners, bloggers and web developers to create a rich hurricane tracking experience on their own websites. This is available (currently in beta) at http://myhurricane.net/api. It is supported by Amazon CloudFront to provide the fastest response time and highest availability of any similar service to date.
