  • Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) March 27, 2015 - Volunteers are gearing up for a charitable two-day dental clinic in Indianapolis.

The IndianaMOM Mission of Mercy free dental clinic will open its doors Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. More than 300 dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and 1,000 general volunteers are required to provide much needed dental care to approximately 2,000 patients who could not otherwise afford treatment.

"We need volunteers from all walks of life," says Dr. Darlene Vaughn, volunteer coordinator for the IndianaMOM event. "We need data entry personnel, patient educators, hospitality specialists, registration coordinators, crowd control and parking experts, translators, and a variety of other roles besides medical staff."

No job is too small. That's the motto of IndianaMOM volunteers. "We're looking for volunteers who are ready and willing to help where ever and whenever needed," Dr. Vaughn explains. The best volunteers are the ones who understand the need for flexibility and open mindedness. "Just because you're an oral surgeon, or you registered as a patient escort, doesn't mean you can't take out the trash."

"I wish we didn't need the IndianaMOM event," says Dr. Sue Germain, event Chairman, "but we do. Many adults, even those with health insurance, do not have dental coverage, and they just can't afford the care they need. Unmet dental needs is a serious issue that can lead to additional health concerns, like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and more. But it also impacts overall wellbeing by causing extreme pain, difficulty eating, difficulty sleeping - even difficulty finding sustainable employment."

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to visit www.IndianaMOM.org for more information and online volunteer registration. Unable to volunteer? Monetary, tax deductible donations are still being accepted and can be made online or by calling 800-562-5646.
