  • (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2013 - Surrey, United Kingdom, (25th March, 2013) - A year ago, Vocality was looking to redefine the way in which technical messages are conveyed to a non-technical maritime audience; they were keen to sidestep many of the same mistakes other companies had made, and to create something original. They approached London-based production company Woodsfilm, which had never worked in stop-frame animation but had experience in media promotional work and children's television; Vocality and Woodsfilm quickly realised the potential of exploring new production styles, and grew excited at the prospect of trying to do the opposite of fast-paced, live-action films.

Woodsfilm produced an animated advert-featuring a script by Mr Bashford and Jay and Caroline Woods of Woodsfilm-with the talents of a model-builder, animator and set-builder. The film promotes Vocality's new service, which provides multiple phone lines over maritime satellite to accommodate crews' calls. At the prestigious IVCA awards event in London, Woodsfilm's Vocality BASICS Multivoice film was awarded: Gold in 'Best Sales of Products and Services'; Silver in 'Best Film'; Bronze in 'Best Brand Communication'.

Julian Bashford, Vocality's CEO, said: "We had seen so many instantly forgettable promo films with boats cutting through waves, thumping music and fast editing. At such screenings, I noticed that everyone dives for their smartphone to check their email the moment the films start playing-we needed something that would grab attention and keep it. Woodsfilm did such a good job for Vocality, we're keeping them-so, other clients: hands off!

"When the film was first played at a maritime event in Florida, I noticed all eyes watching the screen. Mission accomplished! For the British in the audience, they also immediately recognised the narrator as the voice of 70s children's TV classic, Mr Benn!"

Mr Woods said: "It's always exciting to answer a brief with creativity that pushes the envelope a bit. Where some see risk, others see opportunity. Gladly for us, Julian and Vocality sit squarely in the latter camp!"
