  • (1888PressRelease) July 11, 2013 - VirtualEmployee.com MD Shaunvir Mahil was in Germany recently on a two-day visit to Cologne, to attend an event hosted by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce as well as the 11th ICT Conference organized jointly by BitKom-NASSCOM from June 13-14th, 2013. The theme of the conference was 'A Shared Economy'. "Although German small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are hesitant about outsourcing as of now, they will outsource in a big way in the days to come," was his observation.

Several top dignitaries from both India and Germany were in attendance at both events. Michael Steiner, the German ambassador to India; Ms HE Shrimati Sujatha Singh, the Indian ambassador to Germany; Jurgen Roters, the Lord Mayor of Cologne, Anshu Jain, Co-CEO of Deutsche Bank and Heinz Paul Bonn, Vice President of BITKOM were present among others.

In a discussion that Mr Mahil had with Dr Katharine Grimme (Principal Consultant, Outsourcing & BPO, Pierre Audoin Consultants), the latter expressed the view that since the majority of German SMEs were strongly influenced by tradition and local culture, most viewed outsourcing with a healthy dose of scepticism and preferred to work with local professionals.

Mr Mahil expressed pleasure at having met and interacted with so many top dignitaries, all of whom echoed a common sentiment. Germany and India are two nations that can benefit enormously by a mutual exchange of expertise in their respective strengths, namely, Germany in Engineering and India in Software Development. In addition, there is a well-documented IT skills shortage in Germany. This is one of the main reasons why offshoring software development to India would take off in the days to come as German SMEs would want to leverage all the possible benefits that a low-cost and talent-rich destination like India can provide.

The world is increasing becoming inter-dependent, thanks to rapid advances in technology. And, so, talent and skills that were once out of reach are now suddenly not just easily available but affordable as well. Add to that the fact that demographical character of the German population itself will be one of the reasons why German SMEs would outsource in a big way. The working age group in Germany is far older than the average age of the Indian workforce.

And so, the need to outsource will overcome the fear of outsourcing. And the VirtualEmployee.com model is ideal for SMEs and start-ups. Because with this service provider, the average German start-up isn't really outsourcing in the traditionally understood way but rather setting up its own presence in India. The local control will remain intact even as Indian skills and talent will power their profits graph.
