Veteran French Chef to Helm Dune's Back Bay Bistro

  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 20, 2014 - Veteran chef Bruno Massuger, a French native who has served as director of culinary operations for a number of exclusive private clubs, has been appointed executive chef of the Back Bay Bistro at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. In addition to overseeing the 199-seat restaurant, he will be responsible for the Dunes' bustling catering division, which serves a diverse array of clients from massive events for Fortune 500 companies to wedding receptions. Locally, he served in the same capacity at The Center Club on the grounds of the OrangeCounty Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa for 16 years and worked with its parent company, ClubCorp, overseeing the culinary operations for several of its other properties.

    Massuger was trained at the Ecole Hoteliere in Rouen, France and later at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). He is a member of Masters of French Gastronomy, Les Toques Blanches, ACF member of Escoffier Society, and a touring chef for the prestigious James Beard House. He also mentors rising chefs from the national headquarters of the CIA.


    The Back Bay Bistro is a contemporary establishment featuring a number of innovative design elements including a sophisticated retractable awning giving the restaurant a "convertible roof." With 60 al fresco seats providing guests with refreshing breezes and wide open views of Newport's Back Bay, the restaurant serves dinner Wed-Sun (5 p.m. - Close), lunch Wed-Sun (opening at 11:00 a.m.) and brunch on Sat & Sun starting at 9 a.m., with breakfast served from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The Dunes' catering division coordinates a wide range of events from clambakes on the beach and corporate team-building exercises to cocktail parties and formal black-tie dinners for 1,000 in the property's 12,000-square-foot tent.
