VERDANTIS Impact Capital Paulownia Agroforestry Delivers Superior CO2 Sequestration Returns

Top Quote Dirk Roethig CEO of VERDANTIS Impact Capital presents scientific evidence that sterile Paulownia hybrid agroforestry systems sequester 33 to 60 tonnes of CO2 per hectare per year while generating investor returns of 12 to 15 percent IRR and community incomes for local farmers. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) April 07, 2026 - ZUG, SWITZERLAND - VERDANTIS Impact Capital, led by Dirk Roethig, demonstrates that sterile Paulownia hybrid agroforestry systems represent a scientifically validated impact investment vehicle at the convergence of climate action and financial return.

Research at the University of Bonn by Professor Ralf Pude confirms Paulownia wood combined with Miscanthus can be used for construction applications, documented in Federal Research Report BBSR 36/2024. CO2 sequestration rates of 33 to 60 tonnes per hectare per year have been confirmed by peer-reviewed research (Ferrara et al., 2024, Frontiers in Environmental Science). This is 8 to 13 times higher than European standard forests.

VERDANTIS structures returns across five revenue streams including timber harvest, intercropping, carbon credits, honey production, and EU subsidies generating net returns of EUR 5,000 to 24,900 per hectare per year (Popa et al., 2024, Sustainability). On a 1,000-hectare project with EUR 12 million investment, projected return reaches 3.2x MOIC with IRR of 12 to 15 percent while distributing EUR 54 million in community income to local farmers over 15 years.

All VERDANTIS plantations use exclusively sterile hybrid varieties with zero percent germination rate. The hybrids are winter-hardy to minus 25 degrees Celsius and carry no invasion risk.
