  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) August 14, 2015 - Derrick Favors, standout center for the Utah Jazz treated 25 students from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake to an afternoon of fun at his 2nd Annual Back to School party.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event, Walmart teamed up with Derrick to give the students a bigger and better back to school bash. The group met Derrick at the Zion's Bank Basketball Center, the Jazz's practice facility, where the energetic crew learned basketball drills, played a game of speed and enjoyed interacting with the gentle giant.

After their exciting time on the court, Derrick and the students enjoyed lunch while Derrick talked about his childhood and shared the story of his journey to the NBA. He made a point to ask each student about their goals and offered advice on how they could achieve them and reminded them to shoot for their dreams.

"The smiles on those young people's faces last year made me realize I was making a difference in Salt Lake City." Derrick added "I am working on building my legacy on the court and off, and it just feels right."

As the party came to a close, Derrick handed out backpacks filled with school supplies, signed photos and gave the students an enthusiastic send off as they departed.

Proud sponsors of the event included Walmart, Swire Coca Cola and Papa John's Pizza.
