  • (1888PressRelease) August 07, 2014 - Utah Jazz's big-hearted center, Derrick Favors and his girlfriend, Shivolli Da Silva, hosted a fun-filled back to school party for 30 youth from the Lied Boys & Girls Club at the Zions Bank Basketball Center on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.

The lively event kicked off with the group sharing a pizza lunch courtesy of Jazz sponsor, Papa Johns. The eager students then had the opportunity to test their skills against Derrick and members of the Jazz's coaching staff in a mini basketball clinic. On and off the court, Derrick encouraged the middle school students to always do their best and set goals for success.

"When it comes to getting an education, it is important to have the right tools" said Derrick. "We wanted to make sure that we did our part to provide these kids with school supplies and send them back prepared. The rest is up to them and I believe they will be successful!"

Derrick closed the party with a pep talk, emphasizing the need for the students to stay focused in class and put in the hard work to get good grades.

Each child took a photo with Derrick and left the Jazz's practice facility with excitement about the upcoming school year and backpacks filled with school supplies donated by Kmart and Costco.
