  • (1888PressRelease) January 05, 2018 - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has published a new safety standard for children’s folding chairs and stools, codified under 16 CFR 1232. The standard was published in the Federal Register on December 15, 2017, following a unanimous vote in favor of it on December 8, 2017.

This final rule amended the list of NORs issued in 16 CFR part 1112 to include the standard for children’s folding chairs and stools, and the product registration rule in 16 CFR part 1130. The rule incorporates the current standard – ASTM F2613–17a Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children’s Folding Chairs and Stools.

ASTM F2613–17a defines a children’s folding chair or stool as seating furniture with a seat height of 15 inches or less with a rigid frame that is intended to be used as a support for the body, limbs, or feet of a child when sitting or resting in an upright or reclining position, can be folded for transport or storage, and may include a rocking base. The product is intended to be used by a single child who can get out of the chair unassisted.
