  • (1888PressRelease) October 06, 2017 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has introduced its new safety standard for infant bouncer seats, codified under U.S. Federal Regulation 16 CFR 1229. Approved on September 18, 2017, this final rule will be included in the list of notice of requirements (NORs) issued by the CPSC.

The final rule includes references to ASTM International’s voluntary standard – ASTM F2167-17 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant Bouncer Seats. The final rule makes two modifications:
    • Requires warning label format and placement to state: ‘‘stop using when baby starts trying to sit up’’
    • Additional text in the suffocation and fall hazard warning label to limit the maximum weight for occupant

The infant bouncer seat is defined as a freestanding product which supports the occupant in a reclined position, allowing the occupant to facilitate bouncing with the aid of a caregiver or other means. The seat is intended for use by infants who have not yet developed the ability to sit up unassisted (roughly up to six months).

Stakeholders are advised to check their products compliance with the new standard, before it comes into effect on March 19, 2018.
