  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) August 17, 2019 - A new exhibition by Lun and Jack Desa opens August 22 at The Living Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.

The exhibition features (about 20 - 30 pieces) and will be on display from 5pm-10pm.

In the exhibition ‘Urban Alchemy', Lun and Jack Desa document their creative journeys of self-discovery through abstract expressionist paintings, found object sculptures, digital media, and music. Together their work dissects relationships of self with an emphasis on dreams, experiences, and influences.

The two artists have arranged their paintings in the electric Living Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Both styles offer viewers an opportunity to develop a relationship with the work outside of Lun and Desa's imagination. The result is tenderized portrayals in Desa's work and visible breath in Lun's work.

Lun is a multi-dimensional artist based in Brooklyn, NY. While creating her eclectic lane as a music artist, Lun has now added painting to her repertoire. She is heavily influenced by her deep Southern roots, intertwined with her Brownsville upbringing. She elicits an emotional, almost auric energy through her use and manipulation of colors. Lun's work is an artistic pursuit of spiritual representations of self and the Universe.

Lun's primary method at conveying this journey comes in the form of abstractions of varying figures and symbols, which often emerge from dreams. Her style experiments with hatching techniques. Many pieces can be regarded as self-portraits– offering viewers a window into Lun's journey to uncover a deeper connection to source & oneself.

Jack Desa is a Brooklyn-bred artist who uses his craft to extract emotion in the reconfiguration of line work, shapes, and angles. Without formal training, Desa has quickly developed a technical skill set and unique approach, primarily working with acrylic on canvas. He explores themes around introspection, self-exploration, the relationship between man and nature, family dynamics, and tensions between race and society from an African-American perspective. Desa boldly manipulates reality, bringing about emotional depth to scenes and subjects by mirroring his own experiences, challenges, and observations.

Asked about the art exhibition, Desa said Urban Alchemy is the junction between society- the way it has been, the way it is, and what it could be. It is social commentary. It is shallow and deep; simple and complex. It is preservation and transmutation. It is alchemy, from an urban perspective.

The Urban Alchemy exhibit is a transcendental black expression- a breaking through and beyond. It serves not as a response, but as an expression of something ever-present.
