Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2011 - Reflecting this year's theme "Constant Evolution," Umicore Building Products USA (UBP) will spotlight its exclusive 48-inch-wide VMZINC® Quartz-Zinc during the 2011 METALCON International convention to be held October 11-13 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 48-inch width represents an evolution in architectural zinc manufacturing, and it is exclusive to UBP, according to Daniel Nicely, director of market development for Umicore Building Products USA (UBP) and an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

"Emerging trends and practices of companies that manufacture zinc building products make it easier for architects to specify and design zinc into buildings in the United States," he said. This product also showcases the velvet grey tones of Quartz-Zinc, which Nicely points out is not a finish but a long-lasting treatment of the surface of the zinc, obtained by immersing natural zinc in a solution that modifies the crystalline structure of the surface of the metal at a thickness of approximately one micron.

UBP will also showcase mock-ups of a Dri-Design® zinc wall with its tapered panel and cassettes made of zinc, and VMZ-Composite Material (VMZ-CM).

Dri-Design is an advanced and sophisticated metal wall panel system with a patented interlocking design and automated manufacturing process (http://www.dri-design.com). The system also complements UMB's emphasis on sustainability because Dri-Design has as strict policy of recycling all scrap metal and cutoffs.

VMZ-CM offers the possibility of larger scale elements that are flatter than the single skin versions. "With VMZ-CM you can also achieve scale that in single-skin would be impossible to achieve or only with compromises in the flatness," Nicely said.
