  • (1888PressRelease) June 12, 2016 - Ukraine's parliamentary faction Opposition Bloc will not pass over the statement of Andriy Parubiy, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, about Ukrainians living in the Eastern part of the country. This was stated by Yuriy Boyko, the Co-Chair of the Opposition Bloc.

According to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, opinions of the residents of renamed settlements may not be taken into account, as these territories are settled with non-indigenous Ukrainians. When asked about the disagreement of the residents of East with decommunization, Andriy Parubiy said: "... Moscow occupants from Kremlin killed millions of Ukrainians in the East of Ukraine. They killed millions of our forefathers in those territories, and settled them with migrants from other parts of another state. And today, do you really appeal to the local people, to the people who live there?"

According to Mr. Boyko, such kind of statement is absolutely unacceptable. He said: "This statement is absolutely uncivilized, discriminatory, it offends a part of Ukraine. We will not let this matter rest. We have already made a statement on behalf of the Party and appealed to the ambassadors, and we will do everything we can to ensure that these words will never be heard in the Parliament again, because they divide our country."

Mr. Boyko added: "Given the composition of the Presidium of the Parliament and the Government, we can see that there is a deliberate discrimination of the Eastern part of Ukraine. And Parubiy's words prove that. This is absolutely unacceptable both for the official and the civil society. He will be given an appropriate assessment."
