  • Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) September 18, 2012 - UCP is celebrating the importance of reading with their annual Book Buds event from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on September 18 and 20, 2012. More than 60 community and business leaders as well as elected officials will volunteer to read and interact with the children at UCP's six campuses including downtown Orlando, East Orlando, Lake Mary, Kissimmee, Pine Hills, and Winter Garden.

"It is important to realize that reading to children at an early age builds the foundation for future academic and life successes," said Ilene Wilkins, UCP of Central Florida's president and CEO. "Reading is an important part of UCP's daily curriculum, but Book Buds offers a unique opportunity to bring volunteers into the classroom and further emphasize the benefits of reading in a fun and interactive way."

Scholastic Books Inc. will donate books for UCP's children to build upon the important reading skills. Each child at UCP will also receive a complimentary Read-a-Book certificate which entitles them to a free kid's meal at participating Subway locations in Central Florida.
