Two local Charlotte friends are collaborating to do something that has never been done before. Kent Smith and Dave Temple, owners of LUCKY YOU FILMS, LLC have joined creative minds to make a one-of-a-kind, Indie feature, made start-to-finish in 30 Days for under $5,000.

Kent Smith who has made Charlotte his home for over 20 years and Dave Temple who has been here for 12 years will co-write, produce, and direct the movie. Both are accomplished, award winning artists in their respective industries. Kent’s photography work has been featured in over 200 magazines, movies, and newspapers. He has also worked on “Extreme Home Makeovers” and HBO, “Real Sports”. Dave is a two time award- winning writer/producer and director, winning best Best Short of both “Rewind” and “Poke the Sleeping Bear”, winning at the Asheville and Solstice Film Festivals, respectively. He is also an actor and National Voice Over artist. This is their first full feature film, both as Directors.

They have come together to create The Last Passport, a poignant feature film about an older gentleman who spends the day in a passport office. He meets a handful of people; each one sharing a story that reflects significant periods in his life. The story takes a candid look at how we “discard” the elderly in our society.

The clock started ticking May 6. The script will be written, shot this weekend (May 15-May17), and edited the next week. Sound, design, and score will be done simultaneously and the project will be completed by Saturday, June 6. From there, it is being accepted into The Solstice Film Festival (http://www.solsticefilmfest.org).

The film will be scored by award winning musician, Kim Planert. Originally from Germany, Kim studied at the University of North Carolina School of Arts. Kim has won a Gold Medal for Best Music in a Short Film at the Park City Film Music Festival in Jan ’08 for the short film, Nest of Spiders. Other accomplishments include writing additional music for the movie, Into the Blue 2 and original music for the television series, “The Unit”.

Steve Saxon is our Director of Photography. Steve has an extensive resume with projects ranging from shooting National Geographic , History Channel, and BBC, to professional athletics, and national commercials like Travelocity. Steve will be shooting on The Red One Camera, the only one in Charlotte. It one of the most sought after HD cameras in the business. It was used in movies like Angels and Demons, the new Nicholas cage film Knowing, and Jumper.

The cast will include Charlotte talent, Chris Crutchfield and Stephan Monteserin. Chris, who, though relatively new to the scene has landed roles in major motion pictures set to debut in 2009, as well as a slew of commercials, and short films that have won high accolades in International film festivals. Stephan starred in the short “Perfecto” that won The Project Direct 2009 Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Jimmy Hager, a Gastonia native, is playing our lead. He has been in many full feature films like Cold Storage, The 27 Club and The List, and in the television series “One Tree Hill”.

All of our extras and crew are from the Charlotte area making this unique film truly a“native”project.
