Turkey Restricts More Substances in Imported Footwear Products

  • (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2017 - The Turkish Ministry of Economy has added chromium VI (Cr VI) and organotin-dioctyltin (DOT) in additional to the current phthalates requirement to its list of restricted chemicals in imported footwear. The changes came into effect on July 10, 2017, and will now be subject to customs controls on footwear. The change was announced in Official Gazette 29236.

    The new restrictions adding Cr VI and DOT state:
    • Phthalates – restricted to less than 0.1% in accessible and inaccessible parts of the shoe
    • Cr VI – less than 3 mg/kg in all accessible leather parts
    • DOT – restricted to less than 0.1% in parts intended to come into contact with skin

    Stakeholders should now ensure their products are compliant with the new regulations.
