  • (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2018 - On January 27, 2018, the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade published a new Regulation on Detergents (Issue: 30314).

The new regulation amends several requirements relating to the supply of detergents and surfactants used in detergents. These include changes to the:

    • Rules on the biodegradability of surfactants in detergent
    • Restrictions or prohibitions on surface active substance in terms of biodegradability
    • Additional information on detergent labeling
    • Information that the manufacturers should submit to the Ministry and health personnel
    • Restrictions on the use of phosphate and other phosphorus compounds in consumer laundry detergents, and consumer automatic dishwashing detergents

The amended regulation is another example of Turkey aiming for harmonization with European Union legislation. In this case, the amendments published on January 27, 2018 take into consideration Council Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 of March 31, 2004 on Detergents.

The majority of detergents will come under the scope of the new regulations on July 27, 2018. The exceptions are detergents containing phosphate and liquid detergent contained in a soluble package. These will be required to conform to the new requirement from January 27, 2019.
