  • (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - TugboatLife.com, an online maritime community with more than 3,000 members, is seeking applicants who are interested in participating in a tugboat-based reality television program. The proposed program is being developed by nationally recognized television producers with more than 20 years' experience in television production.

"Tugboat Life is pleased to assist the producers in locating the best possible cast members for this show," says Judd Spence, who operates the Tugboat Life site. "There are few more interesting settings for a reality show than on a tugboat. It's a work environment, but it's also where the crews live. The crews come together for two or three weeks at a time, and you have to make things work, both professionally and personally."

The tugboat work environment is just one element of the setting. "On a tug, you're performing dangerous, highly demanding work," says Robert Johnson, co-founder of the Tugboat Life site and an active tug captain. "You have to depend on the people you work with, regardless of how you feel about them. They're part of your crew, and they depend on you, too. You have to be there for them."

Spence says that the show will be about as far away from "Jersey Shore" as one could imagine. "The boats aren't glamorous, and everyone has a job on the boat. No one is there just for show."

For working tugboat personnel who want to nominate themselves, another mariner, a boat or a towing company to appear on the show, an application is available at the Tugboat Life Web site, at http://www.tugboatlife.com/application.html. Only individuals, crews and tug companies currently licensed and working in the towing industry in North America will be considered.
