  • (1888PressRelease) August 14, 2008 - In 2006 Vanuatu was identified as being the “Happiest Country on Earth”. Since 2000 the growth in tourism, rare secret art, world heritage site of a Chief's grave, now the discovery of extinct giant tortoises, has brought this country into the world spotlight.

From north to south the 83 tropical islands of the South Pacific archipelago stretch across some 700 kilometers. These tropical islands have over 153 distinct languages and cultures, and offers a glimpse of life from a different age.

Life which goes on as it has for generations, in thousands of scattered villages. Extended family structures are strong. Food is supplied by the bountiful land. Possessions are few. Traditional ceremonies are maintained and chiefly rule is paramount.

These are people without money, without telecommunication systems, without medical assistance, without electricity and running water, and without education. These are the people and regions that make Vanuatu such a terrific 'Must See' travel adventure destination of the South Pacific.

Port Vila does have its take-away shops: pizza, chicken and chips, fish ’n chips but none of these are brand names. The hands of the Ni-Vanuatu make great local coffee in the restaurants. The cafe on the foreshore is in one of the most dramatic locations for a moonlit cinema. Life goes on at a different pace to the rest of the world.

Global corporate names are beginning to appear in Port Vila, though as yet there is no McDonald's.The question is: will the arrival of global corporate giants change this tropical island paradise?

A priority need for these people remains the basic necessities of life. Foremost, improvements to education and health is top priority, in order to better place these people for the 21st century.

There is no lack of the promise of romance, security and freedom for the children of Vanuatu. Children miss out, however, on a formal education throughout Vanuatu. Education is not free and so remains beyond the realm of those with incomes of less than $1 per day.

The sad consequences of this are:

    · 26% will never go to school at all
. only 55.8% of Vanuatu kids will get to grade 6
    · of those only 18.2% will go to high school.

YouMe Support Foundation, has a world first Internet Raffle, Blue Moon Opportunity that will change someone’s life, as well as the lives of these beautiful children.

You can be part of this exciting project and make a real difference. You can visit these children. Vanuatu is only three hours flight from Sydney, Australia.

These children don’t have McDonald’s but they do have a great way of life. They just want a chance to take their rightful place in the 21st century, in spite of no MacDonald's in their one main street of Port Vila.
