  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) November 25, 2010 - 400 volunteers to fill local warehouse and wrap 20 thousand donated toys at the Children's Hunger Fund Toy Wrap event, Saturday, Dec. 4.

For 18 years Children's Hunger Fund (CHF) has welcomed thousands of Los Angeles volunteers to wrap toys for needy children who might otherwise get nothing for Christmas. Because of the hurting economy and very few toy donations, prospects for a Toy Wrap event this year appeared bleak.

But Christmas is the season for hope. Just as time was running out, Ty, makers of the wildly popular Beanie Babies line, generously agreed to contribute a huge stock of plush toys and dolls, making the event possible.

"Ty's donation saved Christmas for thousands of needy children," explained Dave Phillips, President of Children's Hunger Fund. "But it goes so much deeper than toys. When CHF gives a toy to a child in crisis we're also giving that child hope for a brighter tomorrow."

On December fourth, 25 hundred volunteers will descend on a Sylmar warehouse with the goal to wrap 75 thousand toys for needy children.

As appreciation for the help they give, CHF will honor key volunteers with Volunteer of the Year Award. "Each year, more than 10 thousand volunteers come to CHF's Pacoima warehouse to bag beans, pack pasta, and assemble over 50 thousand Food PakŪ boxes," Phillips said. "We could not do what we do if it weren't for our dedicated and faithful volunteers." Working through qualified and trained local churches and organizations, nearly 33 thousand CHF Food Paks have been distributed in Southern California this year alone.

To participate, Children's Hunger Fund asks volunteers to visit ChildrensHungerFund.org to register their families and groups.
