  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) February 14, 2014 - Most companies today are debating the prospects of a Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) structure for their corporate wireless environments. However, there are several considerations that need to be investigated and the costs associated with some of these considerations need to be quantified, before deciding on a BYOD versus a non-BYOD environment says a report by Alsbridge Inc., a benchmarking, sourcing and transformation advisory firm.

A BYOD policy allows each employee to purchase their own wireless device and to select their own wireless carrier. The perceived benefits from a BYOD environment according to Alsbridge CEO, Chip Wagner, include "a reduction in wireless expenses incurred by the corporation, increased employee satisfaction due to the fact that they can now choose their own device/carrier and a reduction in corporate resource time to administer the wireless program."

Probably one of the largest reasons why a company considers a move to a BYOD environment is financial. There is a perception that a BYOD environment will save money for the company over the long run. The latest report by Alsbridge outlines five key areas that need to be reviewed including, compliance, provisioning, financial, protection of corporate information, and behaviors. In addition, a cost analysis for a BYOD versus a non-BYOD environment is included for a real-life customer.

Corporations who are considering moving to a BYOD environment should perform a financial analysis. In addition, the considerations noted in this white paper should be included in the analysis in order to determine the best approach. Alsbridge president, Dieter Thompson says, "Every corporation is different and a "one size fits all" approach is not possible in the mobility space." However, he adds, "A balanced analysis that takes into account financial and other considerations, coupled with clear and effective mobility policies, is appropriate when determining a BYOD or a Corporate-Liable environment."
