  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 06, 2011 - Thomas Deans Fine Art in Atlanta will feature new paintings by Raleigh, NC, artist Jason Craighead in "4 Painters," the gallery's inaugural exhibition in its new location, beginning with the opening reception on September 9 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Artists Scott Upton, David Kidd and Chris Metze are also included in the "4 Painters" show, which will run through October 8.

This exhibition is Craighead's first show with Thomas Deans Fine Art, a 28-year-old gallery that specializes in both historic and contemporary work, including paintings, drawings, watercolors, sculpture, photography, and selected master prints by artists of historic, international, national, and regional reputation.

The paintings Craighead will show in "4 Painters" represent a dramatic evolution in his work, which has been recognized for years for the layers of paint that seem to veil the brushstrokes behind them. According to the artist, events and self discovery over the past two or three years have inspired him to "lift the veil" and create more raw, emotional and passionate work.

"My interest in drawing, in mark-making, dates back to my childhood," said gallery owner Thomas Deans. "There is nothing more powerful to me, whether those marks are made swiftly in pen and ink by Rembrandt or in graphite through the trance-like meditations of minimalist Linda Karshan. It's the element of drawing, of mark-making, that first drew me to Jason's work. Having followed his development over the last several years, I knew now was the time. I had to show this work. His newest paintings exhibit real mastery of line, a kind of freedom that is both intuitive and, though seemingly spontaneous, beautifully controlled. They are as much drawing as painting, and one gets the sense, standing in front of these paintings, of an artist coming fully into his own. 'Soaring' is the word that comes to mind."

Deans calls the combination of Craighead, Upton, Kidd, and Metze, "a rare and stunning feast for the eyes."

Deans recently moved his gallery from Bennett Street to the Miami Circle Design District, a bustling retail area within Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood.

Thomas Deans Fine Art is located at 690 Miami Circle NE, Suite 905, Atlanta, GA, 30309. For more information visit www.thomasdeans.com or call 404-814-1811.

Craighead's work is concurrently featured in a two-artist exhibition at Flanders Gallery in Raleigh, NC, entitled "Detachment." For more information on the artist, visit www.jasoncraighead.com.
