  • (1888PressRelease) June 02, 2014 - LAS VEGAS | SHANGHAI - On Monday, June 2, THE UT.LAB, a technology driven footwear company, will leverage Kickstarter.com for the second time to release their newest creation, THE NINJA slip-on. Aiming to change the way shoes are brought to market, THE UT.LAB has effectively re-imagined their original footwear design and manufacturing process with this latest product. Early backers will be able to exclusively secure a pair for only $38.

The company will be building upon the success of the LIGHT WING TRAINER, their original shoe design crafted from TYVEK paper that launched on Kickstarter in 2013. THE UT.LAB quickly made a name for themselves, becoming responsible for the all time best-selling shoe on the crowd-funding platform.

A successful Kickstarter campaign will allow the company to push their design past the final phase and on to market. The funds will go directly towards completing final prototypes, purchasing materials and molds, testing and, lastly, the production of a limited batch of THE NINJA. This original product line will be tagged with a custom numbering system, branding each shoe as a unique limited edition piece. The shoes will be produced immediately and shipped globally in August 2014.

This short Kickstarter video details how THE UT.LAB team began to reimagine the design and manufacturing process for their footwear brand. The goal was to streamline the production process, improve shipping efficiency and drastically reduce their environmental impact. Their efforts have resulted in a leaner shoe that uses 70% less material and a production process that is 75% faster. All of this was done without compromising the design's fundamental aesthetic principles, namely, comfort and near weightlessness.

"We've spent the past year re-imagining how we make and design shoes. We did this all the while we were finalizing our first Kickstarter, expanding our partnership with Teach for America, building a new online shop and improving upon our first designs of the LIGHT WING TRAINER." UT.LAB Co-founder, Shaun Nath mentioned. "This Kickstarter is the culmination of a year of dedication to improving the end to end process of our footwear, and we're excited to involve the Kickstarter community in the last leg of this mission."

    About THE UT.LAB
THE UT.LAB has relied on the support and feedback from online crowd sourcing communities and such a strategy has paid off immensely. Beginning in 2013, the company led the most successful Kickstarter shoe crowdfunding campaign to date, raising 947% of its original goal for the LIGHT WING TRAINER: PENCIL. Building on this early success, THE UT.LAB spent the next twelve months perfecting their business model. They conducted customer surveys by using innovative online pre-sale activities in order to better understand which designs, styles and colors were in demand. This feedback translated into tangible results, improving the design quality while simultaneously providing real-time data for product demand as they prepared the official e-commerce debut in April 2014.

It is through this sort of rapid prototyping, lean manufacturing, instant market feedback and non-traditional e-commerce channels that THE UT.LAB strives to disrupt how new retail products are brought to market globally. The Kickstarter project is only one of the many ways the company is innovating.
