  • (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2019 - SOUTH AFRICA, KWAZULU-NATAL, DURBAN – The Sharks have announced that they are true THIRSTI fans as they ratified THIRSTI Water as their official 2019 Hydration Partner.

Sharks COO, Eduard Coetzee, said of their new partner, “We really like this young, disruptive KZN brand who, against all odds, entered an already saturated hydration market in 2016, or so we thought, and immediately took market share from global market leaders. This was a ‘listen to your gut risk, believe in yourself, and never say die attitude. These are core strengths that embody both brands.”

Rob Hoatson, Founder and Director of KwaZulu-Natal based, THIRSTI Water, has made staggering inroads across South Africa in three short years. His brand has attracted a young, vibrant market who intrinsically bond with authentic brands as both naturally celebrate and partake with those who fearlessly pursue their passions and dreams.

Says Hoatson, “The Sharks pursue excellence in all that they do. We could not have chosen a more authentic brand for THIRSTI, and a more valuable partner for the release of our Isotonic range.” #SharksHydrationPartner

The Sharks are an embodiment of these values; their globally-recognised brand extends beyond the world of rugby, promoting this intrinsic lifestyle value as well as fashion, entertainment and sporting aspiration.

With two dynamic brands committed to empowering people to be the best version of themselves, and embodying the values of community, hard work, pride and peak performance, this will undoubtedly be a powerful partnership.

“Both brands share core values and a pioneering spirit with community being at the forefront of our endeavours. Partnering with like-minded brands, such as THIRSTI, allow us to push the boundaries even further, and we are confident that this partnership, based on excellence, innovation and common core values, will grow and deliver rewards for both parties,” says Coetzee.

In honour of their shared values, the Sharks and THIRSTI have also made a joint commitment to support “safe-water” for marginalised communities.

Together, they have identified the Hambanathi Evangelical Community Charity as the beneficiary of their first “safe water” project.

The Hambanathi Evangelical Trust is based in Hluhluwe and works with orphaned and vulnerable children.

Rob Hoatson is a timber farmer, and a Chep pallet manufacturer based on his family’s farm, Normandien, in the northern Drakensburg.

Hoatson set out to construct a state-of-art water plant on Normandien. He project-managed the construction himself; over 60 000 cubic metres of soil had to be moved to level the site and then build a 6000 sqm factory and warehouse on the farm.

Hoatson’s state-of-the-art turnkey solution has two fully-automated high-speed cleaning, filling and packing lines. It took just under a year for the factory to be completed – a significant investment in a plant that can bottle 35 million litres of water a year, and beyond.

Hoatson is always on the lookout for opportunities to put it into action. One such example is his smart integration of CHEP pallets into the THIRSTI business model.

Faced with the reality that he would be required to deliver water to all his major clients’ DCs on CHEP’s distinctive blue pallets, Hoatson approached CHEP with an offer they could not refuse.

He set up a small pallet manufacturing plant at the Normandien sawmill - a few km from the THIRSTI water plant - using wood that would normally be sent away for pulping – but is perfectly usable for making pallets. Now, each time he sends water to, say, the Woolworths or Shoprite DC in Joburg, Hoatson loads the consignment on his freshly-made CHEP pallets.
