  • St. Louis, MO-IL (1888PressRelease) July 28, 2022 - The Spirits are back in Saint Louis thanks to Owner Damon Cannon! Cannon brought the Spirits back to the Saint Louis area because he wanted to create an opportunity to showcase nationally the area’s local talent. The original Saint Louis Spirits were part of the original ABA from 1974-1976 and had future Hall of Famer Moses Malone on the team. Cannon knew the prior history of the Saint Louis Spirits and wanted to revive that in the new and improved American Basketball Association.

The Saint Louis Spirits have been a part of the American Basketball Association for the past five years and have seen a tremendous amount of success. In the five years of operation, the Spirits have never been below .500. This year, they will be celebrating their first team that included local legends like Dwayne Pope, Ryan Hill, and Justin Sims. This team was so successful that people began to recognize the local talent, such as Martavian Payne and Bryton Hobbs. This year, the Spirits are happy to be bringing back Head Coach Trey Hewitt. The expectations are extremely high for the Spirits this year, Owner Damon Cannon said the bar is so high, it’s not about winning but dominance…. It is a championship or bust for us.

Not only are the Spirits successful on the court, but they are just successful off the court. One of the biggest organizations they support is J.A.D.A.S.A, which stands for Journey Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse. This great organization provides support and resources for abuse victims as well as counseling. J.A.D.A.S.A hosts an annual race in October and the Saint Louis Spirits are proud to be involved.
