  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) April 18, 2012 - The 2012 Health and Vitality Speaker Series is a community education event held at The PARK LANE's Vista Lounge located at 200 Glenwood Circle in Monterey monthly. The events begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by question and answer s at 4:00 p.m. This series is open to the public and refreshments are provided.

    The April presentation is "Living Well with Arthritis" will be held Monday, April 30th from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Guest speakers include Alexandra Fallon, Arthritis Foundation, Brian Ellinoy, Integrative Pharmacistand Joy Colangelo, Occupational Therapist Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. The panel will be discussing the various types of arthritis, treatments and exercises that may help those suffering from one of its many forms. Did you know one in five adults has some form of arthritis?

    Special to this event will be the presence of the NOVA Company, makers of the four wheeled rolling walker with handbrakes and seat. NOVA Company will be on site to conduct a "Walker Clinic". Bring in your collapsible aluminum walker, and NOVA Company will replace the tennis balls with new adaptive gliders to make the walker easier to maneuver. There will be no charge for adapting the gliders. In addition to the "Walker Clinic, " Akshai Patel, of AllCare Pharmacy will be bringing assistive devices, arthritis support braces and some of the crèmes known to relieve arthritis symptoms.

    Speaker Background:
    ALEXANDRA FALLON
    Alexandra is currently the Director of the Central Coast Branch for the Arthritis Foundation, where she provides leadership and implementation for community programs and fundraising initiatives

    From ABC-TV to her award winning start-up, Alex has spent the past 15 years bringing brands to life. She began a career in retail with Nordstrom and Estee Lauder. After developing a ten million dollar portfolio for Murad skincare she went on to launch her own brand, Heavy Duty, where she gained significant expertise in business development, public relations, venture agreements and market expansion.

    Some of her most passionate projects have included working with non-profit organizations as well as national consumer brands where she produced events, attained corporate sponsorships and provided creative media outreach.

    BRIAN J. ELLINOY, PHARM D
    Brian J. Ellinoy, Pharm.D. earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in LA. His professional career has encompassed a variety of settings, including government, academia and research community practice, with more than twenty years of clinical hospital pharmacy practice at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

    Dr. Ellinoy has obtained in-depth training in herbs, supplements, and other complementary therapies, including acupressure, Healing Touch, homeopathy, imagery, and nutrition, and for the past ten years has been pioneering a new kind of pharmacy practice as an Integrative Pharmacist Consultant. Having knowledge in both conventional and complementary worlds of health care, Dr. Ellinoy is in a unique position to help clients not only with medication-related problems but also with the safe, use of nutritional supplements and non-conventional therapies. His goal is to help empower clients to make informed choices about their own health care needs. Dr. Ellinoy is currently affiliated with Serrena, the Center for Integrative Therapies in Monterey, California

    JOY COLANGELO
    Joy Colangelo has a Masters' degree in Occupational Therapy and a BS in Ancient Greek. She has been a CHOMP occupational therapist for 20 years with 17 of those years served as Clinical Supervisor. She specializes in swallowing disorders and general OT at the hospital and has a private practice in pain disorders and pediatric movement and feeding disorders. She has lead the Arthritis Support Group at CHOMP for over a decade.
