The Nature Place Day Camp Announces Open House Schedule and Free Events for Families in 2013

  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2012 - Beginning on January 19, The Nature Place Day Camp is inviting families to join them for fun, free, hands-on events showcasing some of the experiences offered during summer camp.

    • Winter Tales with Chuck Stead - Saturday, January 19, 11 am - Noon
    The Nature Place's magnetic storyteller, Chuck Stead, spins tales of winter, wonder and surprise rooted in Rockland County's Ramapo Mountains.

    • Outragehisss Pets - Sunday, February 3, 11 am - Noon
    If you're intrigued by anything that walks, hops, flops or flies, join The Nature Place at their Outragehisss Pets program. Visitors will be able to see, learn about and if you're feeling brave, hold or touch a menagerie of animals.

    • Maple Sugaring - Saturday, March 2, 11 am - Noon
    Tap maple trees, boil sap over a fire, and then, over crushed ice and accompanied by a dill pickle, taste that amber aristocrat of all sweets - maple syrup.

    • Spring Nature Walk - Saturday, March 30, 11am - Noon
    Connect with each other and the earth at The Nature Place's Spring Nature Walk. Ed Bieber, Owner and Director of The Nature Place, will lead guests on a nature walk, engaging with the outdoors while exploring the magic and mystery of spring.

    • Wild Edibles with Paul Tappenden - Sunday, April 14, 11 am - Noon
    Rockland's local wild forager and Nature Place activity leader Paul Tappenden will lead guests in discovering a delicious world of green and growing delights.

    • Spring Peeper Hunt - Saturday, May 11, 7:30 - 9pm
    Grab your boots and join The Nature Place in tromping through the swamp at dusk for a 'hunt' of the harbingers of spring. No nets or 'hunting' gear required to find these tiny, but loud frogs - just a sharp ear!

    • Garden Party - Saturday, June 1, 11 am - Noon
    You're invited to a party in the garden! Anyone with a green thumb, or a thumb yearning to be green, should check out this event. Refreshments will be provided for willing workers, tasters, planters and weeders.

    All the above events are free and no RSVP is required. Events are hands-on and mostly outdoors so dress accordingly (and make sure to wear boots for the Spring Peeper Hunt).

    Events will be followed by an open house, from 1- 4pm (except for our Spring Peeper Hunt which is preceded by one). This includes a tour of the Nature Place Day Camp as well as a slide show from past summers.

    The Nature Place is a non-competitive and nature-oriented day camp for children ages 4-16. Located on 200 acres in Rockland County, campers connect with each other as well as the earth through hands-on, pressure-free programming.
