  • (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2019 - The time to plan your schedule for the year-end has arrived as the Killers have been announced to sway the audience at the Abu Dhabi F1 race day concert. This announcement was made by promoters Flash Entertainment. The band will take the Du Arena stage on December 1st 2019, which is a Sunday.

This rock band that began their journey in Las Vegas in 2001 have become one of the most successful bands to come out of Nevada. The band members consist of Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion), Mark Stoermer (bass, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Dave Keuning (lead guitar, backing vocals), and lead Brandon Flowers (lead vocals, keyboards, bass). Their name is derived from a logo on the bass drum of a fictional band portrayed in the music video of the song ‘Crystal’ by New Order.

The band will be joining rapper Travis Scott. Travis will be playing at the same venue on November 29th (Friday). Their performances will be amongst the four after-race concerts that will be held during the F1 weekend. The rest of the performances are scheduled to be announced in the days to come.

The Killers’ journey with the UAE
The band’s show in December will take place almost a decade after their debut in the UAE. Their debut show was a packed one, which had taken place at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace.

Over the past decade, this band has grown to become one of the big names in rock music. This is an indicator of how the UAE has become one of the premium concert destinations for the world.

A month before their concert in the December of 2009, the Du Arena (earlier known as Yas Arena) had opened and as part of the inaugural Abu Dhabi F1, hosted stars like Aerosmith, Jamiroquai, Kings Of Leon, and Beyonce.

Before 2019, The Killers returned to UAE in 2013, with their show taking place in Dubai’s Nasimi Beach. Tickets for this event were sold out, with the show being attended by more than 10,000 people. By this time, both the country and the band has established itself as leaders in the entertainment industry. By 2013, the group had their 3rd album Day & Age already topping the charts. They were already being hailed as a concert drawcard. They delivered a set of some greatest hits that consisted of modern rock anthems like For Reasons Unknown, Mr Brightside, and Somebody Told Me.

In 2019, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend takes place somewhere between the 29th of November and the 1st of December. In 2018, the after-race concert headliners were Guns N’ Roses, Sam Smith, The Weeknd, and Post Malone.

    The online revelation
The Killers were included in the F1 festivities, but this news wasn’t simply given away in a single tweet. The announcement was made gradually with a series of online clues posted by Yas Marina Circuit’s social media channels. The clues were published a day before the main announcement.

The hints involved some current developments about the group, along with some lesser-known career and song references.

The first clue was the David Bowie-esque male singer emoji. This correlates directly with The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers. Brandon had earlier already expressed his love for the British singer.

The second clue was posted in the form of images that portrayed drums and a guitar. This was a clear indication that a rock band would be coming to Abu Dhabi. This was again followed by the emoji of pistol. This emoji is also a reference to the band’s name.
A more intriguing and confusing clue in the form of a dagger emoji was also posted online. This also referenced The Killers name — this referencing connected to the well-received 2012 single, Miss Atomic Bomb. The clue could be related to the lyrics: It feels just like a dagger buried deep in your back.

Sealing the deal for fans were two more clues. These clues referenced their performance at the Glastonbury music festival last year in the UK and the fact the band has collected ‘over 30’ music awards, with their present trophy cabinet containing around 32 songs.
