  • (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2011 - The International Federation of Yawara-Jitsu, has just released it's first self defense application for the IPhone. In this interactive self-defense course, a basic self-defense protocol will be taught. It explains, among other things, how to block an attack, how to keep a distance, how to protect oneself against a blow or a grip and what to do when attacked from behind and on the floor.

The app shows important strategies which can avoid being attacked. Nonverbal information is very important. It is the information someone sends to the people around him.

The app shows which places and situations to avoid. And what to do when someone is already in a dangerous situation.
Any object can be used as a weapon. Pens, umbrellas, keys, chairs, etc. The applications show how these objects can be used to defend oneself.

The most important legal aspects of self defense are subject to the application as well.

The application's design is innovative. The explanatory texts of each technique are accompanied by a 3D animation from multiple viewing angles, so the user can follow every movement very precisely.

The application has a lite version "Defend yourself" and a full version "Self defense for all" and is available in English, Spanish and Dutch.

Enrique Perez-Carrillo, Technical Director of the International Federation of Yawara-Jitsu, states that knowing how to defend one self is a necessity: "having notions of self defense is like knowing how to swim: having some basic knowledge allows a person to keep afloat and not to sink; in self-defense happens the same thing. You need to know how to react in a dangerous situation. "Knowing how to defend oneself, can save one's life", he says in the introductory video.

The International Federation of Yawara-Jitsu, has developed different self defense learning projects, like gender abuse prevention and ant-bullying programs.
