  • (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2010 - Effective corporate team building programs that work for the employees and the company have certain qualities that apply both inside and outside the workplace.

Professionally monitored team building exercises that improve team communication, encourage team building ideas, set healthy goals and promote fun can transform the culture of any company. Programs that stress the value of team cooperation, team spirit and team support are what companies and their employees seek today.

That is why more than 100,000 workers from 1,000 companies and 55 countries participated in the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC) team walking program. This unique team building exercise program breeds a sense of corporate wellness that permeates the entire company.

The GCC is more than a professionally organized step count program. Team members set personal and team goals to increase individual and team step counts every day. Teammates discuss strategies, communicate openly about team building ideas that will help achieve the common goal as they learn to support each other.

The premise of the GCC walking program is based on the fact that today's worker averages a mere 3,500 steps per day. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization recommends that workers walk 10,000 steps (7 kilometers) everyday.

Once seven workers get together and commit to the 16 week corporate challenge, each participant will receive a GCC pack which includes two pedometers per person. Teams can select names or accept names assigned by the GCC. The goal is for each team member to reach the 10,000 step goal every day.

Attaining this goal takes a plan that considers time, teamwork, support and plenty of communication. The same team building activities that companies strive to attain. This exercise will yield fitter employees, more energetic employees and teammates who are used to socializing and working together,

Everyday the team members login with their user name and password to access the GCC site. Once signed on, team members enter their daily step count from the pedometer. The site then converts the team daily entry into kilometers and maps the progress for teams that wish to span the globe.

Additionally, each team will have access to a graph detailing their progress. Friendly competition between various companies is bound to occur. However, reaching the team goal is the primary force that drives the team, who will find the need to improvise and develop team building exercises.

Last year 92 percent of the participants completed the corporate challenge. 67 percent of the participants reported higher energy levels as well as other significant health benefits.

Teams build a strong esprit de corps that makes for a more productive workplace, where many of the same team building activities will be utilized. Then, next year more teams from the same company will enter the rewarding Global Corporate Challenge and enjoy improved health and greater team building skills.
