  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2011 - Hollywood Live! Broadway Live! Producer Shari Upbin will direct "Women's Minyan," a play based on the spellbinding novel by internationally acclaimed author Naomi Ragen. The work is being presented by Levis JCC West Boca Theatre Company in Boca Raton, Florida December 1st through the 18th.

Women's Minyan is the true story of an ultra-orthodox Rabbi's wife and mother of twelve prevented from seeing her children after she leaves the community under bizarre and horrific circumstances. The play brings together New York Director Shari Upbin and her daughter Rabbi Danielle Upbin of Congregation Beth Shalom in Pinellas County. Rabbi Upbin is serving as Rabbinical consultant of the piece. The story is set in Meah Shearim in Israel.

Director Upbin says she's thrilled to be directing the work in South Florida and has high praise for Naomi Ragen, the author of the play. "Ms. Ragen has been a tireless advocate for women's rights in Israel, said Upbin. She's fought against gender segregation on Israeli busses and bias in rabbinical courts. I hope theatre goers are inspired and empowered by the play's powerful message."

Women's Minyan ran for sold out audiences for over 5 years in Israel. Upbin recently directed the award-winning comedy "Confessions of a Jewish Shiksa."
