  • (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2012 - The Cure Panel Talk Show, breaks new ground in connecting leading physicians to patients, caregivers, and patient advocates through its innovative program. Participants get an opportunity to hear leading experts and ask them specific questions to find answers to their health conditions.

Launched in August 2012 as a series of monthly internet radio talk shows featuring multiple myeloma experts, Cure Panel Talk Show has received enthusiastic response. Four panels have been held featuring some of the top physicians in conversation with a panel of myeloma survivors who are also passionate bloggers, discussing important questions such as the role of transplant, contrasting cure versus control treatment strategies, and non transplant options. Each panel is open up to 50 live listeners who are also invited to ask their specific questions.

Over 200 myeloma patients and their family members have attended the panels. The archived version of the 1 hour shows have been replayed more than 13,000 times since the first panel in August 2012.

The inaugural Cure Panel Talk show kickstarted with Dr. Ravi Vij, M.D. Associate Professor, Washington University School of Medicine as Myeloma Expert discussing latest myeloma treatment with the panelists. Dr. Vij says, "I think Cure Panel is a novel and very effective platform for education and exchange of knowledge."

Dr. Parameswaran Hari, M.D. Associate Professor from Medical College of Wisconsin who was the expert in the Talk Show episode discussing treatment options for relapsed myeloma patients echoes the sentiment. "Cure Panel Talk Show is a great platform for patients and caregivers to interact with experts. The internet radio format achieves rapid and wide dissemination of relevant data on rare diseases where specialized knowledge is scarce and patients have to be their best advocates. I was amazed by the excellent questions from the panel and the level of engagement was very high."

Dr. James R. Berenson from the Institute of Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research (IMBCR) was the myeloma expert on the November Cure Panel Talk Show discussing myeloma treatment without transplant adds, "The Cure Panel Talk Show was an informative and engaging broadcast, and I look forward to more opportunities to present new research data and answer questions regarding the potential of combination therapies for those with Multiple Myeloma and MGUS.

The panelists on the Talk Show include noted myeloma blogger and author, Pat Killingsworth (of the MultipleMyelomaBlog.com), and Gary Petersen, the editor of Myelomasurvival.com, who also doubles up to co-host the shows with Cure Talk.

Pat Killingsworth says, "I'm surprised how many patients and caregivers click-on the Cure Panel Talk Show link the day after the broadcast. Thousands listen and learn. Statistics prove that informed myeloma patients live longer. Who knew these broadcasts would become such an important educational tool. I mean it... Very impressed!

Gary Petersen goes a step further when he says, "The Myeloma Cure Panels SAVE LIFE!! They help to provide myeloma patients with knowledge to become their own best advocate!

The response from the audience consisting of patients, caregivers and their family has been overwhelmingly positive as well as evidenced by statements such as , "Thank you for providing the helpful, and informative teleconference" or "Shout out to Cure Talk for organizing the panel discussions."

Other panelists featured on the panel include myeloma survivors, bloggers, and caregivers - Jack Aiello, Nick Van Dyk, Matt Goldman, Lori Puente, Keith Virgin, and Karen Crowley.
