    About the Hibiscus Festival:

The Hibiscus Festival began in 1953 as a 2-4 weeklong, city-wide event that included fashion shows, Lady Teas and Bridge Games, shopping events and softball games.

The festival celebrated with dancing and the Miss Hibiscus Pageant during late Spring every year.

In 1963, the Chairman of the committee decided to retire which led to the cancellation of the festival, leaving behind the Miss Hibiscus Pageant to stand alone for one more year. The Hibiscus Festival was revived in 2004 and expanded to additional space in the downtown sector and today draws over 15,000 people.
