The Coastal Cupboard Sharpens Knives to Feed Charleston Area Families for Thanksgiving Nov. 1-3, 2013

Charleston-North Charleston, SC (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2013 - Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard, announced today that the store is hosting its semi-annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event Friday, November 1, 2013 through Sunday, November 3, 2013 at its Mt. Pleasant Belle Hall Shopping Center location at 644-J Long Point Road.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Everyone in the Charleston area is invited to get their straight-edged knives professionally sharpened for only a $1 donation per knife, where every dollar will benefit The Charleston Basket Brigade (CBB). During the event guests may enjoy free gourmet food tastings, knife demonstrations and enter a charity raffle to win cutlery sets, cooking classes at The Coastal Cupboard and more. Doc Crombie from Doc Crombie's BBQ will also be serving up his famous barbecue sauces and new line of steak and hot sauces. The store will also host two book signings on Saturday, November 2nd with cookbook authors Gena Knox and Carey Morey.

"We love the Basket Brigade's mission and are thrilled to support them again this year at the Knife Sharpening Event," said Pitner. "It is a perfect time to get your knives sharpened with the holiday season right around the corner; and you're simultaneously giving people in our community the gift of a Thanksgiving meal."

The Charleston Basket Brigade is a local nonprofit organization with a commitment to bring the community together to provide Charleston Tri-County families with all of the ingredients to cook a Thanksgiving meal. This year the CBB has set a goal to raise $100,000 to feed 20,000 residents (Approximately 3,333 families) for Thanksgiving. It only takes $30 to feed a family of 6-8 and 100% of the donations go towards purchasing food.

The meal includes a 10-12 lb. turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and butter. Each family receives an anonymous letter inside the basket that reads "This comes to you from someone who cares about you. All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day." Then on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, November 26, 2013, the Basket Brigade rallies up hundreds of volunteers to assemble and deliver all of the meals to each and every family.

Our mission is simple and heartfelt, we just want to lend a helping hand to our neighbors and give them a great Thanksgiving experience that they would otherwise not have."

During the Charity Knife Sharpening Event on Saturday, November 2, The Coastal Cupboard will host two book signings. Gena Knox, national food writer, cookbook author and CEO of Fire & Flavor, will be at the store from 11 am - 1 pm. Knox is the author of award winning cookbook Gourmet Made Simple, which offers fresh healthy dishes and with some recipes featuring plank grilling, and her Best Seller Southern My Way, which features recipes from her childhood with a healthy twist. Later in the afternoon from 1 - 4:00 pm, Charleston's own Carrie Morey, owner of Callie's Charleston Biscuits, will meet with guests and sign her nationally acclaimed cookbook Callie's Biscuits and Southern Traditions that shares some of her heirloom recipes from the family kitchen.
