  • Asheville, NC (1888PressRelease) November 19, 2010 - On the beautiful evening of November 6th, high above vibrant downtown Asheville, NC, the light shined bright on a special night-out to benefit children with autism. Cheers for Charity, hosted by The Asheville Club at 151 a Private Residence Club perched atop Hotel Indigo - Downtown Asheville - sold out before the doors opened and was host to far more VIPs and raised more money than organizers had hoped for.

In total, The Asheville Club at 151 hosted over 100 guests and raised more than $5,500 - all of which will go toward funding scholarships for a local autism program. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Spectrum, by Dragonfly Forest, an innovative recreation program for children with autism. Their mission is to help kids build self-confidence and create friendships through positive shared experiences.

"We feel lucky to be the first organization to benefit from The Asheville Club at 151's Cheers for Charity events. Everyone had a great time enjoying amazing views and great food and wine from local gourmet restaurants OneFiftyOne Bistro, FIG, Bouchon and the Biltmore Winery," said Sylvia van Meerten, Director of The Spectrum.

The owners of The Hotel Indigo and The Asheville Club at 151 were also excited about the turnout.

"We wanted to put on a special event for our guests and VIP's in our first Cheers for Charity and I think all who attended agreed on the evening's success" said Dennis Goodwin, developer of the Hotel Indigo and The Asheville Club at 151. "We not only had a great evening but we raised far more money than expected thanks to charitable donations from our generous guests," added Goodwin.

"At the Spectrum, we offer social opportunities, and we help people build the self-confidence they need to find and keep lasting friendships" said van Meerten. "Our clubs are innovative, and our participants are motivated to attend. It is such a joy to watch people blossom under the compassionate instruction of our group leaders!"
