  • (1888PressRelease) January 17, 2011 - Bangkok, Thailand - Expert Thailand law firm BSA Law are currently pushing for greater awareness of arrest rights, including the methods that Thai police can use to arrest citizens, the remedies that exist for wrongful arrest, and your rights in general if the police believe that you have committed a crime.

Expert Thailand law firm, BSA Law, have recently been pushing for greater public awareness of citizens' rights during and after an arrest.

The rights that the expert Thailand law firm would most like the public to know about include:
    • The right to have medical attention provided if it is needed
    • The right to have your alleged crime explained to you and to receive a copy of the arrest warrant
    • The right to have access to a lawyer, and not to speak until they are present
    • The right to call a friend or relative in addition to your lawyer

"It is not only when the basic arrest rights are violated that we would like to see people question their treatment by police. If they believe that excessive force was used in their arrest, or if they believe that the arrest was motivated by something other than true suspicion of a crime having been committed, there are avenues that we can help you pursue", said Apisakde Kongkangwanchoke, of BSA Law.

"We would also like people to know that they are always entitled to have a lawyer present, and do not have to tell the police anything other than their name and address details until a lawyer is present. This applies whether you believe you are innocent or think you may be guilty of a crime", Mr. Kongkangwanchoke continued.

"When people stand up for their rights, they do a small but significant favor for the rest of Thai society - every time the law and our ethical standards are upheld society grows further towards a place where people can thrive instead of merely survive", Mr. Kongkangwanchoke finished.
