  • (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2018 - Thailand has introduced legislation to mandate the use of a warning label on mobile phone and tablet cases that contain liquid chemicals. The new rules were published on June 8 and came into effect on July 7, 2018.

The new regulation, published in the Government Gazette as ‘Announcement of the Committee on Labeling No. 41 (B.E. 2561 (2018)) Notifying Mobile Phone and Tablet Covered Accessories (Cases) which Contained Liquid Chemicals Will Be Labelled Controlled Products’ covers mobile phone and tablet cases that contain acids or certain hydrocarbons – decane, heptane, nonane, oxalic acid and other acid chemicals. The introduction of this regulation follows incidences of people suffering chemical burns when leakages of these substances occurred.

The new law requires the permanent labeling of the product with the warning ‘อันตรายหากของเหลวรั่วไหล’, meaning ‘Danger of liquid leakage’. The lettering must be in a different color to the product and must be in a larger font size than other statements.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) was originally notified of Thailand’s intention in January 2018, in document 18-0174 (G/TBT/N/THA/505), amended on June 28, 2018, with document number 18-4094 (G/TBT/N/THA/505/ Add.1). Stakeholders should now ensure their products are compliant with the latest regulations covering access to the Thai market
