Thai Law Firm Tells Foreigners In Bangkok To Check Current Location Of Immigration Service

Top Quote Foreigners in Bangkok needing to visit the Immigration Department for 90 day report, Thailand work permit, visa or other processes during the ongoing anti-government street protests in the Thai capital, should enquire beforehand as to whether the department is working from its permanent office at the Government Complex Center or at temporary offices set up elsewhere. • (1888PressRelease) February 25, 2014 - "It's important to find out whether you need to go to the Government Complex Center in Chaeng Wattana or instead to one of the temporary offices either on Suksawat or Ladprao Roads", said Apisakdi Kongkangwanchoke, spokesman at leading Thailand law firm BSA Law.

The Immigration Division 1's permanent office located within the Government Complex Center has been a strategic target of anti-government protesters on more than one occasion since the street protests in Bangkok started in October 2013. This prompted a relocation of immigration services to temporary offices, in late 2013 and again in mid January 2014.

The two temporary offices are located at:

    • Major Hollywood Suksawat - 1st Floor, Suksawat Road, Ratburana, Bangkok

    • Imperial World Ladprao - 5th Floor, Ladprao Road, Wang Tong Lang, Bangkok

Service hours are from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm Monday to Friday. The offices are closed on official holidays. The Immigration Division 1 website at http://bangkok.immigration.go.th provides maps to these locations and also lists contact telephone numbers for further information.

As of 18 February 2014, the website continued to carry a notice stating immigration services at the Government Complex Center were suspended and that the temporary offices would operate until the situation in Bangkok improved.

"Considering the temporary nature and smaller-scale operation of services at these offices, people should give themselves more time to complete the 90 day report, Thailand work permit, Thai visa service or other processes they need to do. While this might not always be necessary, it is a wise approach to take", noted BSA Law's Apisakdi.

The One-Stop Service Center for Visas and Work Permits located in the Chamchuri Square building on Phayathai Road in Pathumwan is open as per normal. Service hours here are from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday (closed on official holidays).
