  • (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2012 - VISIONAIR, which describes itself as a provider of 'alternative imaging solutions', has substantial business in school photography. It blames out-of-date practices for widespread dissatisfaction among consumers -- and also mentions a lack of ecological awareness among photographers.

"We're aware of an increasing disconnect between what customers want and what photographers provide," commented JIM MOUSTAKAS, Managing Director of VISIONAIR. "The kids are all on Facebook and Twitter, and their parents have moved the family album onto PC and are using e-mail to share photos. They want digital, but the photographers go on churning out glossy prints -- and they make them in chemical darkrooms that fill our rivers with metal salts."

MOUSTAKAS believes that many consumers would be horrified if they realised the high environmental cost of conventional photography. "VISIONAIR has been strongly committed to digital photography since day one," he says. "We want to help lead this medium into a greener, digital future."

VISIONAIR's stated policy is to become the first photography company in Australia to phase out glossy prints in favour of CD distribution. "We'll send the kids home with personalized CDs -- they can put the digital photos straight onto social media sites," says MOUSTAKAS. "Their parents can view and share on computer. And, if they really want hardcopy, they can take the CD to a local bureau and get a big, hi-res computer print. That's still a lot better for the planet than a silver halide blow-up from a darkroom."

VISIONAIR has its main offices at King Street, Newtown.
