  • Sacramento, CA (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2010 - A 17-year-old accomplished swimmer and member of the Folsom Sea Otters Swim Team was practicing her required laps for her job as a coach at TRICKS Gymnastics, Dance and Swim in Folsom when something went terribly wrong. According to other coaches who were in the pool area, the young woman began to sink in the four foot pool. "One minute she was swimming her laps and the next she was just still in the water," said Julia Adams, another coach at TRICKS.

The TRICKS staff immediately jumped into action. Julia Adams and fellow coach, Autumn Dawid, pulled the girl out of the pool. Miss Adams called 911 while a parent of a student notified the front office. After being pulled from the pool, Matthew Miscisin, a trained lifeguard began administering CPR to the unresponsive swimmer until the paramedics arrived and took over. The young swimmer was transported to Mercy Folsom Hospital and then later transported to Mercy General in Sacramento due to her injuries.

According to friends, it was discovered that the 17-year-old has a previously undiagnosed congenital heart issue which caused her to pass out and nearly drown in the pool. Thanks to the quick thinking and training of the TRICKS staff, the girl is in stable condition and hoping for a full recovery. "I'm glad what we did here helped save her life. There were many people fighting for her life for long hours at the hospital who deserve more credit than I. Some people look at what I did as heroic. I was just doing what was needed." said Miscisin.

Mr. Miscisin has set up two websites as a result of this of this near tragedy. The first is a site to keep friends and family updated on her recovery. www.hopeforkristin.org The second site is www.project-cpr.org. "Early CPR is critical for a person's survival. Now I want everyone to learn CPR so I have initiated www.project-cpr.org to teach CPR to as many people as possible. My first goal is to have all of Folsom CPR trained," said Miscisin.
