Swift Creek Mill Theatre Celebrates 50th Anniversary

  • Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) December 01, 2015 - For more than half a century, Swift Creek Mill Theatre has been on a mission to entertain and enlighten audiences all over the Greater Richmond region. On Wednesday, December 2nd the theatre celebrates its 50th Anniversary in grand style, with Dr. Baxter Perkinson, Dr. Ivan Perkinson, as well a famous cast members, joining leadership and the board of directors for a gala reception at 7pm. Although this is a private reception, members of the media are invited to attend.

    "In celebration of our 50 years providing top-quality theatrical productions to Chesterfield and the Tri-Cities, we decided to share this milestone with members of the community who made it possible," said Theatre Director, Jennifer Procise. "The response to this event has been overwhelming and audiences have been supporting our 50th anniversary season with strong attendance at all of our productions."

    To mark the occasion, Delegate M. Kirkland Cox (R-66th) will present the board with a copy of House Joint Resolution HJ848, an official resolution of the General Assembly commending Swift Creek Mill Theatre on its 50th anniversary. The Resolution was patroned by a litany of Richmond-area law-makers including Delegates Carr, Ingram, Loupassi, McLellan, McQuinn, O'Bannon, Peace, Robinson, Tyler and Ware, in addition to Senators Dance, Martin and Watkins.

    Swift Creek Mill Theatre's 50th anniversary season opened on September 17, 2015 with Church Basement Ladies- A Second Helping. The ever-popular Plaid Tidings opened on November 12th to kick off the holiday season and the legendary Plaids will be making spirits bright until January 9th. The season continues with the World Premiere of The Little Lion, based on an historic novel by award-winning author - and Richmond's very own - Nancy Wright Beasley. Beasley is best known as author of Izzy's Fire: Finding Humanity in the Holocaust. The 50th anniversary season continues with the always popular Little Shop of Horrors and The Hallelujah Girls, a feel good comedy featuring 5 enterprising southern ladies from Eden Falls, GA.
